| I have harmed my amplifier for a long time. I often noticed these trial amps made less noise than my own amps. However, the background noise was not the fault of my amps but my own fault. Ever since hifi has been my business I do not enjoy crawling around a system and playing with contacts. The convincing words of Audiotop Products, the producer of the products presented in the last issue, led me to clean my preamp with the detergent of Connect-Workstation. The result was so unbelievable that I spent two whole days cleaning the contacts of my system. My cleaning obsession did not include purely the NF- and speaker connections. Audioplan's Powerstar and Sun-Leiste also received my full attention as well as Straight-Wires special Bananas. Because of the highly praised mechanism, two pieces for every plug must be treated. If you follow the instructions of the swiss producer, each contact is cleaned with three different detergents. The contacts need time to dry. Even so: the effort was worth its while. The background noise is almost completely gone, the details are now audible, I can enjoy many more details and the dynamics of the equipment have improved. If you do not want to buy the expensive but extremely effective products from Audiotop: Arm yourself with Q-Tips and take on the task of a big spring cleaning. |
